Digital vs printed wedding cards: what they really cost in India
By Ved RK, founder of Shubh Invitation · · 4 min read
A printed card is a keepsake and a ritual; a digital invitation reaches everyone the same day and collects replies. Both have a cost beyond the price on the card. Here are current printed card prices from Indian printers, a worked example for 300 guests, what a digital invitation costs, and how many families now do both.
In short
In India, most printed wedding cards cost about ₹10 to ₹200 each, and luxury boxes ₹500 or more, before name printing, postage and sweets; 300 mid-range cards come to roughly ₹25,000. A digital invitation costs from nothing to a few thousand rupees in all, reaches guests the same day and can collect replies.

What a printed wedding card costs in 2026
These are catalogue prices from Indian card printers, checked on 18 October 2026. Most exclude printing the names, postage and GST, and most printers sell in lots of at least 50 to 100 cards.
| Kind of card | Price per card | Where the figure comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Simple or budget | ₹10 to ₹50 | King of Cards, Bengaluru, April 2026 |
| Mid-range | ₹50 to ₹200 | King of Cards; Kalash Cards, Delhi |
| Premium or designer | ₹200 to ₹500 and more | King of Cards |
| Luxury designer | ₹500 to ₹2,000 and more | King of Cards |
| Box invitations | About ₹500 to ₹5,000 and more a box | Destination Weddings India, 2026 |
On top of the card itself:
- Printing the names and details: for example ₹10 a card, with a ₹1,000 minimum, at one Delhi printer (Kalash Cards).
- Envelopes usually come with the card.
- Postage for out-of-town guests: India Post Speed Post for documents up to 50 grams costs ₹47 beyond your city, plus GST, from 1 October 2025. A single-sheet card fits; a box does not, and needs a courier.
- Sweets or dry fruit with the card for close family, if your family follows the custom, adds to the bill.
- Bulk discounts: some printers take 5% off at 200 cards, rising to 20% at 1,000 (Kalash Cards).
A worked example: 300 households
Say you invite 300 households with a mid-range card at ₹60, have the names printed, and post 100 cards to guests in other cities. The rest you hand over in person.
| Item | How it adds up | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Cards | 300 × ₹60 | ₹18,000 |
| Printing names and details | 300 × ₹10 | ₹3,000 |
| Speed Post to other cities | 100 × about ₹55 with GST | ₹5,500 |
| Total, before sweets or boxes | About ₹26,500 |
A premium card at ₹250 takes the same wedding past ₹80,000, and a box invitation for close family adds more. Delivering the rest by hand costs time rather than money: many families spend weekends for a month driving across the city.
What a digital invitation costs
Digital invitations are priced per invitation or per year, not per guest, so 300 or 3,000 guests cost the same.
- Free: Canva's free plan, WedMeGood's free card link and Shubh Invitation's free designs.
- Paid design tools: Canva Pro is listed at about ₹4,000 a year on the App Store in India.
- Made-to-order videos: sellers list wedding invitation videos from about ₹600 to ₹8,000.
- Shubh Invitation (ours): designs are free, ₹499, ₹799 or ₹1,099, paid once, with a WhatsApp video and up to 500 guests for ₹400 more. See pricing.

Beyond the price
| What | Printed card | Digital invitation |
|---|---|---|
| Cost for 300 households | About ₹25,000 and up | Free to a few thousand rupees |
| Time to make | Printing takes about 1 to 2 weeks after you approve the proof | The same day |
| Reaching guests | Weeks of visits and couriers | One WhatsApp message each |
| Changing a time or venue | Reprint, or call everyone | Edit it once; the same link updates |
| Replies | Phone calls | Guests reply in the invitation (on Shubh, for each function) |
| Elders | Feels proper and personal | Needs a call to go with it |
| Keepsake and rituals | Kept for years; the first card goes to God | Lives in the phone |
Printers say themselves that printing takes time: one Delhi listing gives 12 to 14 days, and a Bengaluru printer advises ordering at least three weeks before the wedding. A digital invitation can go out the evening the muhurat is fixed.
Why many families now do both
The most common answer is not either-or. Families print a small number of fine cards for the rituals and the elders, and send a digital invitation to everyone else.
- Print 30 to 50 cards: the first card for Ganesh or the family deity, cards for grandparents, close elders and the families you visit in person.
- Send the digital invitation to everyone, elders included, so they have the venue, the map and every function in their phone.
- Collect replies in one place, so the caterer gets a real count instead of a guess.
