Muslim wedding invitation wording: nikah, walima and shaadi card lines
· 5 min read
A Muslim wedding invitation usually opens with Bismillah, names the families with respect and invites guests to the nikah and the walima, often with a mehendi or manjha before. Here are 28 lines to copy, in English and in Urdu written in Latin script, with notes on what each part means.

Opening lines: Bismillah and blessings
Most families begin the card with Bismillah, the words Muslims say before beginning anything good. Some write it in Arabic script, some in English, and some families in South Asia print 786, a number used as a stand-in for it. Follow what your family prefers.
Bismillah
Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
With Allah's blessings
With the blessings of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, we joyfully invite you to the nikah of our beloved daughter.
Insha'Allah
Insha'Allah, the nikah will take place on Friday, 12 February 2027, after Asr prayer.
Dua request
Please remember the couple in your duas as they begin this new journey.
Nikah invitation wording
The nikah is the marriage contract itself, held at home, in a masjid or at a hall, in the presence of a qazi or imam and witnesses. The card often names the bride's and groom's parents and sometimes the grandparents.
Formal, from the bride's parents
Mrs. and Mr. Irfan Qureshi request the pleasure of your company at the nikah of their daughter Ayesha with Faraz, son of Mrs. and Mr. Salim Ansari, Insha'Allah on Friday, 12 February 2027, after Maghrib, at Noor Banquets, Lucknow.
From the groom's parents
With the blessings of Allah, Mrs. and Mr. Salim Ansari invite you to the nikah of their son Faraz with Ayesha. Your presence and duas will be our honour.
With grandparents
With the duas of Janab Abdul Rahim Qureshi (Marhoom) and Mohtarma Zubeda Begum, the Qureshi family invites you to the nikah of Ayesha and Faraz.

Walima invitation messages
The walima is the feast hosted by the groom's family after the nikah, to share the happiness of the marriage. It is often the largest gathering, so many families send it to a wider list.
Formal
Mrs. and Mr. Salim Ansari request the pleasure of your company at the walima of their son Faraz with Ayesha, on Sunday, 14 February 2027, at 8 pm, at Noor Banquets, Lucknow.

Pre-wedding customs vary by region and family. Manjha (also called manjhe or haldi) is a turmeric ceremony held in many Hyderabadi, Deccani and North Indian Muslim families; sanchaq, when the groom's family brings gifts to the bride's home, is common in Hyderabad. Use the names your family uses.
Mehendi
Dholak, songs and henna: you are invited to Ayesha's mehendi on Wednesday, 10 February, from 6 pm. Wear green!
Manjha
Please join us for Faraz's manjha on Thursday, 11 February, at 5 pm, at our home.
Sanchaq
The Ansari family invites you to the sanchaq ceremony on Wednesday, 10 February, at 7 pm.
Baraat
The baraat will arrive at Noor Banquets at 6 pm on Friday, 12 February. Please be with us to welcome it.
Rukhsati
Rukhsati will follow the nikah and dinner. Please stay to bless Ayesha as she leaves for her new home.
Urdu and Hinglish lines in Latin script
Many families like a line or two in Urdu, even on an English card. These are written in Latin script so everyone can read them.

Tips for a respectful Muslim wedding card
- Check the Arabic. If you print Bismillah or a verse in Arabic script, ask someone who reads Arabic to check it before printing or sending.
- Respect for sacred words. Because Bismillah and Allah's name are on the card, some families prefer a digital invitation, so printed cards are not thrown away carelessly.
- Write titles the family's way: Janab, Mohtarma, Marhoom or Marhooma for the late, Haji or Hajjan where used.
- Give prayer-based times a clock time too, as prayer times change with the season and the city.
- Say who hosts what. The nikah is often hosted by the bride's family and the walima by the groom's; say so on each card.
- Mention separate seating for men and women if your family arranges it, so guests are not surprised.
Make a Muslim wedding invitation on Shubh
Shubh has a Muslim wedding tradition with painted themes, and each function, such as mehendi, manjha, nikah and walima, gets its own date, time, venue with a map pin and dress code. You can invite a guest only to the walima, for example, and guests tap RSVP for each function with no app and no sign-in. The card can be written in English, or in two languages side by side. One function is free; see pricing for more.
