Engagement
Engagement invitation message: 28 lines for the ring ceremony
· 5 min read
The engagement is the first time both families celebrate together in front of everyone, so the invitation sets the tone for the whole wedding season. Here are 28 engagement invitation messages: formal lines from the parents, warm ones from the couple, roka and sagai wording, and short texts to send on WhatsApp.

Engagement invitation messages from the parents
Most engagements in India are hosted by the families, and elders expect to be invited by the parents. These lines read well on a card and in a family WhatsApp group.

Roka and sagai lines
In many North Indian and Punjabi families the roka comes first: a small, often private ceremony where the families formally accept the match. The sagai or engagement, with the exchange of rings, may follow later or on the same day. Customs differ by family and region, so use the word your family uses.
Roka
With joy in our hearts, the Malhotra family invites you to the roka of our son Arjun with Simran, on Sunday at 12 noon, at our home in Model Town.
Roka, very short
Rishta pakka! Join us for Arjun and Simran's roka this Sunday. Lunch to follow.
Sagai
Please grace the sagai ceremony of Pooja and Nikhil with your presence and blessings, on Friday, 19 February 2027, at 7 pm.
Roka and ring ceremony together
Roka in the morning, rings in the evening: join both our families for a day of celebration for Simran and Arjun.
Chunni ceremony
With the blessings of our elders, we invite you to the chunni ceremony of Simran, as she is welcomed into the Malhotra family.
Gujarati families often call it gol dhana, Marathi families sakharpuda and South Indian families nischayathartham. Name the ceremony the way your elders will recognise it.
Closing and RSVP lines
Your presence and blessings will make the day complete.
Awaiting your gracious presence: the Agarwal family.
Kindly reply by 10 January so we can plan the seating.
Please tell us how many adults and children are coming.

Questions
- How do I write an engagement invitation message?
- Say who is inviting, whose engagement it is, the day, date, time and venue, and ask guests to reply. Add a blessing line if your family uses one.
- What is a short engagement invitation for WhatsApp?
- Greet the guest by name and keep it to two lines: "Dear Neha, Ritika is getting engaged on 13 March in Pune! The invitation and RSVP are in this link."
- What is the difference between roka and engagement?
- In many North Indian families the roka is a small ceremony where the families accept the match, and the engagement or sagai, with rings, comes later. Many families now hold both on one day.
- Who sends the engagement invitation?
- Usually the parents or both families. Couples often send their own message to friends.
